TOP STORY: Emergent Receives $44M from CDC
Gaithersburg’s Emergent BioSolutions will receive $44M from the CDC in support of its role in the supply of VIGIV, a therapeutic licensed by FDA for the treatment of complications due to smallpox vaccination. Emergent also announced its plans to spin-off its biosciences business into a new publicly-traded company, focused on novel oncology and hematology therapeutics.

Gaithersburg’s Novavax announces positive top-line data from its Phase 2 clinical trial for its RSV vaccine for older adults. The company also recently announced positive top-line data from a Phase 2 trial of its recombinant quadrivalent seasonal influenza vaccine candidate and positive top-line data from a Phase 1 clinical trial of its Ebola virus vaccine candidate.
Baltimore’s Gliknik, Inc. announces that its licensee, Pfizer, has received Orphan Drug designation from the FDA for a drug candidate directed towards potential treatment of CIDP.
Germantown’s Epigenomics blood-based test for colorectal cancer (CRC), CE marked and CFDA approved, is included in the Chinese Guideline on Screening, Endoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment of Early CRC. (Nearly 290M people are eligible for CRC screening in China.)
Baltimore is the new HQ of Vasoptic Medical, recipient of $250K from Abell Foundation.
Rockville’s RegeneRX announces more information regarding its drug candidate for Dry Eye Syndrome and other potential ophthalmic disorders and related clinical trials.
